Full Flower Moon

Sunday, May 18, 2008

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac the full moon that will occur on May 19th is called the Full Flower Moon.  It's called the "Full Flower Moon" since flowers spring forth in abundance in May. Some Algonquin tribes knew this full Moon as the Corn Planting Moon or the Milk Moon.

Saw it last night at 3am. At that time, still fairly high in the sky, it rivaled even the brightest street lights. Seeing the Full Flower Moon's almost eerie beauty is worth losing a little sleep.

Thanks for the folklore tip, Jason, and for all you do to promote kids' interest in science, too.
