gas...$5 haircut...$100

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

As I filled my gas tank last night with $3.64 a gallon fuel, I started wondering how long this gouging can go on and not filter down to my clients. (A collective "nooooooo", they replied. )I do not have a plan to raise my prices. Like everyone else, I am managing without making any allowances. Some of our products have increased by 25 and 30%. Then there's the shipping costs....The buck seems to be passed along from middle man to middle man. Am I a middle man or does the buck stop here? I think the stimulus checks will be a temporary fix, but the rest of the summer looks pretty bleak. I am worried. I worry for the girls at the shop, knowing not only do we not receive cost of living increases or raises, but when a semi-recession takes place, we actually revert backwards on our net profit. Of course several other businesses also take hits like this. So do we raise our prices after gas goes to $5.00 a gallon? Ughhhh.....
