Second half of Jackson-Cape Legion a wild oneWednesday, June 11, 2008
Here's a line score you won't see everyday: Jackson 003 207 1 — 13 15 1 Cape 030 604 1 — 14 7 4 The Cape Girardeau Ford and Sons Post 63 Legion team edged Jackson 14-13 in the second half of Tuesday night's twinbill after Jackson won the District 14 game 7-2. I only caught the tail end, but it was interesting. Cape had three of its hits in the last two innings. It answered Jackson's seven-run sixth a grand slam to take a 13-12 lead. After Cape baserunners reached by walk, hit batsman and walk with one out, Collin Crane smashed a ball over the left field fence to give Cape the lead. Cape even loaded the bases again by the same combination — walk, HBP, walk — before leaving them stranded. After Jackson scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch with two outs in the top of the seventh, Cape manufactured its winning run. Hideaki Tonaka singled into left, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Tyler Glidewell's double over the outfielders and into left center.
