Ike blows throughSunday, September 14, 2008
Sirens heralded Hurricane Ike's faltering path across Missouri this morning — firefighters were responding to massive calls about downed power wires and fires. Police and firefighters remain extremely busy. At the moment, thousands are without power. Details are here. The Sock Hop and duck races are canceled. Details are here. I'm in the process of downloading some video I shot this morning just before the River Tales Classic auto show started. A big wind blew away some fliers and sent almost everyone scurrying to pick them up. In the process, one of the organizers, Danny Essner, lost his baseball cap when it blew off of his head. We think it went right over the flood wall. Essner said he's not sure how many cars will show throughout the day, but that it would proceed. Photographer Fred Lynch is on the road capturing images (and maybe some video) of the high winds' effects. We'll post some images as soon as possible. How about you? What does it look like outside your window? Post a comment here — or share your stories and your photos on our Website — and stay safe!
