On September 27th and 28th the Horny Toad Offshore Super Series National Championships were held at the Lake of the Ozarks off Toad Cove (the seven mile marker). Special events and nightly concerts at the Toad Cove Entertainment Complex were also part of the weekend’s festivities as upwards of 50 of the fastest boats in the world participated in the Championships. The Horny Toad and the newly opened adjacent Resort Hotel and Yacht Club provided “ringside seating” for watching these state-of-the-art racing boats reach speeds upwards of 200 miles per hour while competing for the National Championship. The two upper level verandas of the Horny Toad and resort hotel’s balconies looking out over its marina were packed with race enthusiasts enjoying the three days of races and the nightly name acts appearing at the entertainment complex’s lakeside concert stage. All 116 suites at the Resort Hotel and Yacht Club have lake views and feature fireplaces, high-end cabinetry and moldings, built-in flat screen televisions, stereo tuner and surround sound, DVD and CD players, Hi-speed wireless Internet access, kitchenettes, king size beds with high thread count linens, lavish comforters, plush pillows, leather sofas with pull out sleeper beds, and more. Many of the suites have balconies overlooking the Yacht Club Marina. Also featured are resort retail shops, a spa and beauty salon, a fitness center, an indoor/outdoor swimming pool with a swim-up bar, an outdoor pool deck area with Jacuzzi pools, a waterfall, an indoor sand volley ball court, billiard room, and the adjacent Horny Toad entertainment complex featuring nightlife and name acts such as the Beach Boys and Willie Nelson in a summer concert series. Many of the hotel’s suites have balconies overlooking the channel where the boats will be racing as well as the full-service Yacht Club Marina which has more than 100 slips for visitors arriving by boat. Yacht Club amenities include 24-hour fueling, pump-out service, a full service convenience store, shower and laundry facilities, wireless Internet, and access to the complex’s retail shops with the latest fashions in resort wear. The marina also has pontoon boats and wave runners available for rental as well as parasailing. The popular summer concert series at the entertainment complex kicked off in June and concluded in September. All concerts started at 9:30 p.m. followed by fireworks displays. All net proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Club and local children’s charities.
