Voter fraud

IF PEOPLE do not want to make the effort to get a photo ID to vote, I believe they have said more about themselves than they know. Voter fraud is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Double platinum

IT SEEMS a bit silly to me that people who live in Cape Girardeau are complaining about Bo Bice being at the SEMO District Fair. Bo Bice has an album out that will hit double platinum by month's end if it hasn't already.

Don't get soft

I HOPE the U.S. Senate's amnesty bill won't make it through the House. Secure our borders and stop pandering for the votes of illegals. They are illegals. They are not supposed to be here. Employers are not supposed to hire them. Fine the heck out of anyone who hires illegals and most of the problem will take care of itself.

Marriage vote

THANK YOU, U.S. Sen. Jim Talent, for co-sponsoring the Marriage Protection Act. Why hasn't U.S. Sen. Kit Bond co-sponsored the Marriage Protection Act? How will he vote in June?

Dangerous sale

EVERY YEAR at this time I ask myself the same question: Why does the Missouri State Highway Patrol allow the 100-Mile Yard Sale to occur on Highway 25? It is unbelievably dangerous and should be stopped.

Thanks for help

I WOULD like to say a special thank you to someone I don't know. I was at the car wash on North Kingshighway when a girl delivered something to a business across the street. I was having problems getting the change machine to take my dollar. She came over to help me. Thank you to the young girl. It's nice to know young people still look out for their elders.

Driving privilege

I'LL APPRECIATE this country a whole lot more if we adopt all of Germany's driving laws and regulations. I'm tired of having to deal with people who don't know what a four-way stop is, who travel in the passing-only left lane and who do not pay attention to traffic signals. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

Wake-up call

TOO BAD National Guard wives are getting a reality check about family assistance when their husbands are gone. The Guardsmen say their wives are not getting the credit they deserve for what they are having to do. Look around your neighborhood. There are struggling single parents who need an extra hand or family assistance. The National Guard article should serve as a wake-up call for all of us.

Waiting for bulb

I LIVE at an apartment complex at the intersection of Whitener Street and Pind Wood Lane. I have asked the city numerous times to replace the bulb in the street light, and nothing has been done.

Government debt

HOW CAN the federal government spend so much money on so many projects even if it doesn't have the money? The answer is simple. Congress raises the debt ceiling and, like many of us, borrows the money.

Take a good look

THUMBS DOWN to gasoline buyers who are rude to the cashier because they are frustrated with the price of gas. Calm down and take a look at that clerk. Does he or she look like the CEO of an oil company? Or do they look like a working stiff who is probably getting paid way too little to put up with the abuse?
