Redhawks even OVC record

The Southeast Missouri State softball team won a pitcher's duel Sunday to salvage the finale of a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series.

Elaine Fisher fired a three-hit shutout and the Redhawks pushed across a run in the seventh inning to beat host Tennessee State 1-0.

Southeast, which was swept in Saturday's doubleheader, improved to 8-14 overall and 3-3 in OVC play. TSU is 22-12 and 3-5.

Fisher struck out three and did not issue a walk.

In the top of the seventh inning, Alex Ramirez led off with a double and, one out later, scored on a single by Amber Peterson.

Ramirez had two of the Redhawks' five hits off Amanda Vaught, who had pitched 8 innings of shutout, one-hit ball against Southeast the previous day to notch a win and a save.

Southeast has a 2 p.m. nonconference doubleheader Wednesday at Evansville.
