Notre Dame qualifies trio for state golf tournamentWednesday, May 2, 2007Notre Dame golfers Brett Slaten, Brandon Pleimann and Austin Gelsheimer each qualified for the state tournament by placing in the top 10 at the Class 3, District 1 meet at the Eagle Lake Golf Course in Farmington on Tuesday.
Notre Dame, which finished second as a team, missed out on qualifying as a team for state by five strokes to North County.
Slaten fired an 80 while Pleimann shot an 84 and Austin Gelsheimer finished with an 85. Jack Wedemeier rounded out Notre Dame's scoring with an 88.
Chris Spitzmiller of North County and Dakota Trevino of Sikeston shared medalist honors, each shooting a 79.
Perryville finished seventh and was led by Johnny Zahner's 87. Chris Streiler shot a 91, Rick Dunn tallied a 99 and Wes Buchheit finished with a 102.
The state meet will take place at the Deer Lake Golf Course on May 14 and 15.
BASEBALLScott City 11, Kennett 1
Ryan Modglin fired a no-hitter, striking out 15 and walking three for the Rams. He allowed one unearned run.
"His fastball had velocity today," Scott City coach Lance Amick said. "He was throwing a lot of strikes. When he throws a lot of strikes, he's hard to hit."
Blake Dirnberger and Jaris Hye both belted grand slams in the victory.

Notre Dame 22, St. Vincent 2, 5 innings
Chad Friend went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and Logan Glueck added a three-run homer to lead Notre Dame in a romp over St. Vincent.
The Bulldogs (11-8) exploded for 16 hits. Abe Dirnberger added two hits and Jordan Buchheit went 4-for-5 with a double. Brett Heischmidt picked up the win.
Gregory Finger led St. Vincent with two singles.

Chris Roth threw three innings and banged out two hits while Bryant Steffens hurled the next four innings and had two RBIs as Saxony Lutheran won.
Ben Courtois and Bret Steffens each added a double and two RBIs for the Crusaders (9-6) and Ryan Winkler went 2-for-3.
Garret Light pitched a complete game and had a double at the plate for Oak Ridge.

Jared Steger hit a grounder to first to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th as Chaffee capped the comeback.
Michael Lee belted a two-strike, two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings for the Red Devils (13-8).
Andy Hendrix had a triple and went 2-for-4 and Adam Crowe picked up the win.

Leopold 7, Meadow Heights 1
Matt Stoverink struck out 11 batters and only allowed a hit and one run as Leopold hammered Meadow Heights.
Stoverink also went 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and three stolen bases. Clayton Stoverink added two hits, one run, one RBI and three stolen bases for the Wildcats.

GIRLS SOCCERCentral 1, Jackson 1
Central scored less than 5 minutes into the game, Jackson answered in the final 5 minutes and the teams battled through two overtime periods to a suprising 1-1 tie.
"They hit the post a couple of times and we hit the post once," Central coach Tom Doyle said. "Jackie Twidwell made several real good saves for us."
The Tigers stand 6-11-1 after the game while Jackson is 11-2-2. Both teams are in Class 2 District 1, with the seeding meeting last week and district tournaments on the MSHSAA calendar from May 12 through 19.
Central went on top early when junior Laura Lusk scored with an assist from sophomore Sarah Uptmor.
The Tigers held off Jackson until the final minutes, when junior Chelsea Dale scored with an assist from senior Randi Kraust.
Central senior Jenna Matthews was injured during the game and taken to a local hospital.
"She is definitely in everybody's prayers tonight," Jackson coach Zack Walton said.
SOFTBALLScott City 15, Richland 0, 4 innings
Jenni Heisserer went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple as Scott City crushed Richland in four innings.
Macy Heisserer and Jennifer Aubuchon each added a double and Emily Essner went 2-for-2 with two triples for the Rams (16-4).
Lauren Schaefer also added two hits and Rachel Reed only allowed one hit on the mound for Scott City.
