  • Travis Bell of Cape Girardeau received Regents' and Missouri Assessment Program scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University. A graduate of Jackson High School, he is the son of Anita Mize and Chuck Bell of Cape Girardeau.
  • Kimberly Phillips of Cape Girardeau received a Missouri Assessment Program Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2007-2008 academic year.
  • Kyla Mouser of Marquand, Mo., has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship from Monsanto and the National Association of Farm Broadcasting. Mouser plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University.
  • Caitlin Scheeter of Notre Dame Regional High School is the recipient of the President's Plus Scholarship and Missouri Leadership Award from Southeast Missouri State University, the University Tuition, Missouri Nursing and Academic scholarships from the University of Missouri-Columbia; the University Scholarship to St. Louis University and an American Legion Scholarship. Scheeter is the daughter of Dennis and Stephanie Scheeter of Chaffee, Mo. Scheeter plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Local students win medal at conference

Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center post-secondary students Darren Wehmeyer and Charles Parsons won a gold medal in video product development at the SkillsUSA national conference in Kansas City, Mo. Over 5,000 students from across the country competed in 87 hands-on occupational and leadership contests in areas such as robotics, criminal justice, aviation maintenance and public speaking.

Arvidson chosen to attend Boys State

Delta High School student Erich Arvidson was selected to attend the American Legion Boys State at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. He is the son of Tony and Tammy McKuin.
