Rose Hills Garden Club

The Rose Hills Garden Club met Oct. 27 at the home of Ella Gateley. The program topic was "Home and Holiday Decorations," presented by Nancy Geiser from Trees and Trends.

Bonnie Kipper, president, gave a report on planting flowers and preparing flower beds at the "Little Red House" being built for the Lewis and Clark celebration. This will be done in the spring when the house is completed.

Hannah Maddox gave her monthly tip on gardening, "How to winterize your roses and trim your shrubs."

The next meeting will be held Nov. 24 with Maddox as hostess.

Nancy Hunter Chapter

The Nancy Hunter Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution met Oct. 25 in the Hirsch Room at Cape Girardeau Public Library. The opening ritual was conducted by Sharon Rowland, vice regent, and Lois Spalding, chaplain.

The national defense report was given by Jeannine McGinnis, chairman. The treasurer's report was given by Ruth Lang. The 2004 dues are now due.

The Lewis and Clark participation was discussed, and Mary Lou Lett will contact the archive office.

Dorothy Krueger Points gave the program on the DAR insignia. She explained the meaning of the ribbon sashes and the different pins as well as the commemorative pins. She had a display of her pins and of those of regent Katherine Kruegger Tolson. Both members have the chapter centennial pin 1901-2001.

The next meeting will be Dec. 3 in the Hirsch Room with Maj. Brian Tully giving the program on national defense.

County Seat Women's Investment

The County Seat Investment Club met at the Edward Jones office in Jackson on Sept. 16. A program on stock market values was presented by Tom Novak.

Women who are interested in learning about investing may call Gail at 335-1825 to attend a meeting.

Oak Ridge FCE

Members of Oak Ridge FCE Club chose the November projects: a contribution to the Andrew Tyler benefit fund and a memorial to the American Cancer Society.

A Thanksgiving menu for a carry-in dinner was planned and will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 18 at the home of Marilyn Rutherford.

A report was given on the club picnic and auction held at the Byrd home in Oak Ridge, and a book, "The Crippled Lamb" by Max Lucado, was given to the Riverside Regional Library in celebration of FCE Week.

Jean Rahak, Carole Jo Byrd, Ruby Hitt and Rutherford will attend a leader's training meeting at Altenburg, Mo., on Nov. 8. Kim Begley, club member, will be demonstrating the making of bath salts at the event.

The club will make a Christmas display at the Jackson Park. Officers will be installed in December by Mary Dee Ford.

Nelda Crader, Cape Girardeau County FCE Council president-elect, reported on the state FCE conference held recently and also the Southeast District Fall Meeting held in Longtown, Mo.

Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau held meetings on Oct. 7 and Oct. 21 at Port Cape Girardeau. Cliff Irwin presented the program on Oct. 7, and Joe Perez presented the program on Oct. 21.

Jayson Spain from Saxony Lutheran High School in Cape Girardeau was chosen as student of the month for October 2003.

Tickets are available for the Ham and Bean Day to be held Thursday at the National Guard Armory. Members need to bring desserts for the event, and setup will start at 8 a.m.

Larry Simon is recruiting members to ring the Salvation Army bells in December.

The next meeting will be Nov. 18. Dan Todt is scheduled to present the program.
