To the editor:
I was born in Cape Girardeau. My father graduated from Southeast Missouri State University over 50 years ago.
Several high schools, colleges and universities have abandoned American Indian nicknames.
In picking a new name, all of the common names should be avoided. Go for something from history, like the Mighty Druids with silver and blue colors.
Of course, SEMO could be ready for a name update. Northeast Missouri State University at Kirksville, Mo., became Truman State University, and President Truman did not even go to college. SEMO could become Limbaugh State University with a big check from Rush Limbaugh.
Limbaugh State University. That's enough to give Dick Gephardt a heart attack.
