KELSO, Mo. -- St. Augustine Catholic Church was the setting June 14, 2003, for the wedding of Amy Beth Essner and Ryan Alan Mattes. The Rev. M. Oliver Clavin performed the ceremony. Organist was Karen Seiler of Benton, Mo. Vocalists were Teresa Givens of Cape Girardeau and Roger Seyer of Weehawken, N.J.
The bride is the daughter of Jerome and Beverly Essner of Kelso. The groom is the son of Wayne and Kathy Mattes of Cape Girardeau.
Maid of honor was Renee Essner of Kelso, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Rebecca Mattes of Cape Girardeau, sister of the groom; Julie Essner and Stacey Seyer of Kelso, cousins of the bride; and Christina Emerine of Benton, cousin of the groom.
Scott Essner of Kelso, brother of the bride, was best man. Groomsmen were Kirk Yount of Cape Girardeau; Neal Essner of Kelso, brother of the bride; James Blackwood of West Frankfort, Ill.; and Danny Buerck of Cape Girardeau. Ushers were Kyle Essner of Kelso, brother of the bride; Jeff Mueller of Robinson, Ill., James Gosche of Perryville, Mo., and Kyle Ludwig of St. Louis.
Candlelighters were Lori Bles, Leeanna Essner, Bonnie Essner and Michelle Hulshof, all of Kelso and cousins of the bride.
Lisa and Emily Snider of Benton, cousins of the groom, attended the guest book.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Scott City.
The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner June 13 at their home.
Mrs. Mattes is a 2000 graduate of Notre Dame High School. She expects to receive a bachelor of science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University Dec. 20.
The groom is a 1997 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He received a doctorate of pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in May 2003. He is a clinical pharmacist at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
The couple is residing in Kelso.
