Central's Gramling earn all-state honor with seventh-place finish

Sunday, November 11, 2007

Sam Gramling became the first Central swimmer in eight years to earn all-state honors as he placed seventh overall in the 500-yard freestyle at the finals of the Missouri Swimming Championships on Saturday in St. Peters, Mo.

Gramling covered the distance in 4 minutes, 51.36 seconds.

Gramling also added a 15th-place finish in the consolation final of the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.34).

"I was real pleased," Central coach Dayna Powell said. "It was nice for Sam. He finished with better times than last year and it was real nice to see that."

Central senior Peyton Waggener finished in 16th in the consolation finals of the 100 breaststroke 1:04.43.

No excuses. Play like a champion! Always. Everyone always looks for a reason.
