Central, Jackson boys advance to semifinal showdown

Central and Jackson set up a Friday meeting in the semifinals of the Farmington Invitational with wins Tuesday in the opening-round games.

The teams will meet 7:30 p.m. at the Farmington Civic Center, with the tourney's third-place and final games set for Saturday.

Jajuan Bell knocked down six 3-pointers en route to a 38-point performance, as the Tigers defeated Sullivan 68-65 in overtime. Anthony Watts added 13 points for the Tigers.

Jackson, the top seed, hammered St. James 68-28 in a first-round game.

Spencer Goodman had 13 points to pave the way for Jackson. The Indians hit nine 3-pointers and had 11 players score.

* Notre Dame, Jackson, and Central all won their opening-round games in the Central junior varsity girls basketball tournament.

Notre Dame knocked off Sikeston 50-25, Jackson crushed Valley Catholic 48-7, and Central trounced Dexter 38-11. Notre Dame will square off against Poplar Bluff tonight at 6 p.m. in the semifinals while Jackson will take on Central at 7:15 p.m. at Central High School.
