Braves, Cubs to play for Oran title

Nick Niemczyk poured in a game-high 44 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Bell City past Twin Rivers 93-62 on Thursday and into the championship game in the Oran Invitational.

The Cubs will face Scott County Central for the title tonight.

Niemczyk went 12-for-12 at the free-throw line in the win. Phillip Gross added 23 points for the Cubs.

Scott County outscored Cooter 50-8 in the first quarter en route to a convincing 111-64 victory. Drew Thomas netted 24 points, Bobby Hatchett added 20, and D.D. Gillespie and Caleb Johnson both added 17 points to help the Braves.

In the losers bracket, Kody Campbell dropped in 25 points as Oran had four players in double figures to defeat Advance 71-50. Tyler Beardslee and Cody Romas both added 13 points for the Eagles, while Cody Dirnberger chipped in 11.

Jacob Bond had a game-high 26 points to lead Advance. Chris Welch supplied 18 points for the Hornets.

Saxony Lutheran will face Meadow Heights in the championship game tonight.

Max Wieser led the Crusaders with 26 points against Leopold in a 75-46 victory. Ben Courtois and Zach Bohnert each scored 18 points for Saxony.

Derrick Wilfong led Meadow Heights past Zalma 83-65 with 25 points, while Tyler Wagner recorded 24.

Perryville defeated Delta in a consolation semifinal game.

Niemczyk is probably the best player in the area and no one is talking about him.
