Shelters and warming centers remain open

The Red Cross Shelter at Immaculate Conception School in Jackson remains open.

After all but one family left the Red Cross site at Osage Community Centre in Cape Girardeau on Thursday, the agency consolidated and moved the family to the other shelter.

"If there is one family that needs shelter, we will find a place for them," said Kessie Hinkle, spokeswoman for the Southeast Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross.

She said 40 people are being cared for at the Immaculate Conception School, 208 Hope St. at East Madison Street in Jackson, 573-897-2922.

"No one will leave that shelter without a place to go," Hinkle said.

In Bollinger County, 50 people ate a hot dinner Thursday night the Red Cross shelter at First Baptist Church, 502 Broadway in Marble Hill. The church's phone number is 573-238-2545. Hinkle said 20 people planned to spend the night.

The Salvation Army has provided at least 150 meals in Scott County and delivered 110 blankets and cots to Bollinger and Scott counties.

Six people spent Wednesday night at the Salvation Army's building in Cape Girardeau, where 23 were served and 13 had supper; the building remained open Thursday.

Joel Evans, Scott County emergency management director, said shelter was also available at the Scott County Sheriff's Department, though no one came Thursday. He coordinated 50 volunteers working throughout the county to give aid.

In Perkins, SEMA delivered a generator for the water plant. Firefighters set up a shelter in Fireman's Hall but asked people to bring their own blankets and sleeping bags.
