Scott City boys reach district semifinals

The Scott City boys basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the Class 3 District 1 tournament with a 52-48 overtime victory Saturday over East Prairie in Portageville, Mo.

The third-seeded Rams trailed the sixth-seeded Eagles 32-28 entering the fourth quarter, but rallied to send the game into overtime.

Alex King scored a game-high 28 points for Scott City, while Jay Simmons added 12.

M.C. Williams paced East Prairie with 19 points.

The Rams will meet Portageville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals. Portageville advanced with a 61-41 victory over Kelly.

Top-seeded Charleston and New Madrid County Central will pair off in the other semifinal. Charleston defeated Caruthersville 56-35, while New Madrid advanced with a 61-49 win against Kennett.

The championship will be played at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Kelly defeated Charleston 62-30 on Saturday to advance to tonight's district semifinals in Portageville, Mo.

The Hawks built a 33-12 lead by halftime and added to the lead in the second half.

Debra Hall led Kelly with 19 points, while Kayla Cissell had 13 and Londyn Backfisch tallied 10.

Kelly will meet Caruthersville at 7:30 p.m. Carutherville posted a 66-43 victory over East Prairie in the first round. New Madrid County Central, which defeated Scott City 56-45 in the first round, will meet Portageville in the other semifinal.

Portageville advanced with a 65-29 victory against Kennett.

The girls championship is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.
