Capahas earn split behind LaBruyere

Monday, June 8, 2009

Brad LaBruyere allowed one hit over four innings to pick up the win and help the Plaza Tire Capahas avoid the sweep Sunday.

LaBruyere, a former Central standout, struck out two and didn't walk a batter as the Capahas won the second game of a road doubleheader 7-4. The Springfield, Ill., Pallys won the first game 7-0.

Dustin Hunter delivered the key hit in the second game, lacing a bases-loaded single with two outs to give his team the lead in the fifth inning. Garrett Stevens also knocked in a run for Plaza Tire (3-2).

Matt Carter started for the Capahas and lasted three innings, allowing four runs, three earned, and striking out one.

In the first game, Ryan Poole went six innings in a losing effort. The Capahas committed three errors in the second inning that helped Springfield score three times.

Matt Wagner had two of the Capahas' four hits in the first game.

"We had a lot of runners on," Plaza Tire manager Jess Bolen said of the first game. "We left the bases loaded twice. We just couldn't push across any runs."

The Capahas return to action Friday when they host the Charleston Riverdogs at Capaha Field.

Congrats to former Cental players LaBuyere and Stevens for contributing to the Capaha's win. Always looking for names of ex-Central players in the news.
