President of the cross' transitional board Steve McKeown says plans for the finalization of the restoration efforts will be unveiled at the annual Bald Knob Cross of Peace meeting on the Feb. 9. Contractors working on the project were able to complete the structural repairs before winter weather struck.

The next step is to solicit bids to replace the aging panels that previously covered the 111-foot structure. McKeown said they're excited about strengthening this important Christian symbol in the region. McKeown said the board will also discuss future plans for the Alto Pass site at the Feb. 9 meeting, including discussions on using the unique location to make the cross more attractive. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the cross' Welcoming Center.
