The Islamic Center of Cape Girardeau has planned a "Hearts for Haiti" evening of Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine to benefit the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. The dinner will feature tabbouleh salad, hummus, biryani rice, chicken tidda, kabobs, chickpea masala and baklava. The kickoff celebration for the 175th anniversary of the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau is scheduled for Feb. 28. The ceremony will also recognize the retirement of the Rev. Paul Kabo, minister of the church from 2000 to 2010. The church service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and a potluck luncheon will follow at 11:30 in the fellowship hall. The 17th annual Doctors vs. Lawyers Basketball Showdown will pit local medical professionals against local lawyers to raise money for the Community Counseling Center Foundation. Doors open at 4 p.m., game starts at 5, March 6, in the new Cape Girardeau Central High School gymnasium. Tickets are $5 for adults; $2.50 for 12 and younger and are available at the door or any Community Counseling Center location. The post-game party will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osage Community Centre. Tickets are $20 and include game admission and silent auction.
