WHAT a super job the Cape Girardeau Public Works Department has done once again on the snow and ice removal on our streets. They don't toot their horn much, but they constantly do an excellent job.
I thought President Bush did a pretty good job after Sept. 11. He became a leader and did the most important job of a president, which is keeping our country safe. The liberal news media did everything they could to make Bush look bad, and the American people bought it. Many of Bush's problems started when the Democrats gained legislative control during his administration. Now the Democrats have complete control, and the problems are much worse. Obama keeps blaming Bush and thinks the American people are dumb enough to believe it. The ones who do believe it have not done their homework.
I don't think saving should be forced. By the time you're done with your taxes, Big Brother has already taken out a fair chunk. If we get a national health plan, we will have to pay for health insurance. There's precious little left after you pay for heating bills that are astronomical. By the time you pay for your other bills, you're lucky to have enough to enjoy life. If you want to save, fine. But don't make everybody save.
I'M a businesswoman in downtown Cape Girardeau. I hope we can get a casino down here. We sure could use the revenue in our town. Please help us get a casino. We need it.
REGARDING teen pregnancies: Perhaps if teenage fathers wore a sign on their chest stating they're a proud father, the shame would not belong solely to the mother. Rather than ranting, please use that energy to research the subject and set up an assembly at local schools.
I have the best Southeast Missourian carrier. I live in Millersville, and my paper is right at my garage door. Thanks, Cheryl. You are the best.
I would like to see smoking banned in bars, bowling alleys and convenience stores. If you have to smoke, go outdoors. Don't do it inside confined places that affect others.
WAY to go, Cape Girardeau city planners. I counted three mailboxes taken out in my block on Mount Auburn Road by the snowplows. These all had to be replaced, causing the city even more expense. It didn't take a genius to figure out that was going to happen when the mailboxes were put up at the edge of the new sidewalk. It's bad enough that you put a superhighway in front of our homes where speeding is rampant. Now we have to worry about our mailboxes being knocked over whenever the weather gets bad. This has diminished our property values significantly with no break on our property taxes. I'm looking forward to voting in the next election. Maybe we can find people with some common sense this time.
WHY do you think doing drugs is cool? The best artists and musicians are in touch with God, not a roach. Suffering in life is not the easy way, but it is a virtuous way. If life becomes too tough to handle, see a psychiatrist. You will still suffer, but this experience will color your world. A real man or woman feels his heartstrings. The Greeks called this a catabasis, a sort of going down amid things. The more you endure, the stronger you will be.
I would like to thank Rachel Crader and her crew for their excellent coverage of select high school basketball games on semoball.com. They do a fantastic job. I'm also a big Speak Out fan.
A recent contributor couldn't find work because all the "aliens" (which were presumed to be "illegal") were "stealing all our jobs." As a small-business person who hires four people year-around and seasonally 12 to 20 others (all are documented and legal), I can tell you I can't find red-blooded Americans to do the work at any pay. I pay more than the current minimum wage for my employees regardless of ethnicity. I don't hire illegals, and I am an equal-opportunity employer. Sadly, I can't find any locals who want to work. Everybody wants a cushy job and a fat paycheck, but I can't find anyone who wants to work except those whose ethnicity is different from mine. There are jobs for those who want to work.
I would like to thank Mr. Miller, who always clears the driveways and roads in Annwood Estates in Jackson. I appreciate it so much, as I am sure all residents do. I hope he receives a special blessing from the Lord for all the stuff he does to help his neighbors. Mr. Miller, you are super.
