Even though the neighbors don't want it and the Cape Girardeau Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously rejected it, the City Council postpones action on a special use permit request for a proposed day care at a house at 321 S. Spring St.

Theodoras Lyras of the American College of Greece, meets with Southeast Missouri State University officials to discuss a student exchange program between the two schools; the program could begin with the spring semester of the current academic year.

50 years ago: Oct. 2, 1960

Cape Catholic High School varsity queen, Joan Tarr, was selected in a week-long campaign; senior class pupils contributed the most money per pupil for athletic equipment in order to name her queen; Tarr is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Tarr.

A series of revival services, led by Dr. Jo Shaver, Southern Baptist Evangelist of Memphis, Tenn., begins at First Baptist Church; the services will continue each evening through Friday.

75 years ago: Oct. 2, 1935

Works administration projects totaling $95,744 for Cape Girardeau County have been approved by the administration at Washington; among the approved projects are improvement of various Cape Girardeau streets, renovation of Fairground Park and improvement of Missouri Park.

After an absence of 46 years, Robert F. Colyer, a native of Cape Girardeau and now a West Coast sugar manufacturer, is visiting relatives here.

100 years ago: Oct. 2, 1910

Several of the pulpits of Cape Girardeau churches are filled by visiting Methodist ministers, who have been attending the St. Louis annual conference here; speaking at Centenary Methodist Church is Dr. E.J. Moore of St. Louis, president of the state anti-saloon league.

T.W. Hellyer of London, England, arrived yesterday for a visit with his relative, Capt. G.E. Alt; Hellyer is a retired tea merchant, having spent nearly 35 years in Japan.
