The city of Jackson plans to begin the process of restriping city roadways by May 1.

Stephen Hendrix, the city's street superintendent, said the process was supposed to begin in early April but had to be pushed back because inclement weather.

He said the high traffic areas such as uptown Jackson, school crossings and the walking trail areas, will be the first to receive fresh paint. Major stop areas, east main street and two-way stops will follow in the process.

Hendrix said the total project will run through most of the summer and require about 200 to 250 gallons of paint.

"It'll take us a couple months to paint everything," he said.

Hendrix said drivers should use caution, keep an eye-out and above all be patient while workers are painting and directing traffic.

The new striping will make everything more visible for drivers, offering people a better understanding of the roadway surface, he said.
