Paul J. Scherer Sr., 92, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born March 3, 1920, in Advance, Mo., to John Aloysius and Bertha Elizabeth Enderle Scherer. He and Alline I. Scheffer were married Feb. 14, 1942, at Charleston, Mo. She preceded him in death Oct. 27, 2010.

Paul served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a production manager at Davis Electric Co. He had also worked as a carpenter. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and VFW Post 3838. He was an avid gardener.

Survivors include four sons, Paul J. Scherer Jr. (Linda) of St. Louis, Gary S. Scherer (Bonnie) and David W. Scherer (Beth) of Cape Girardeau, Ronald G. Scherer (Suzanne) of Fruitland; a daughter, Mary E. Scherer of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Vernon "Sheenie" Scherer of Benton, Mo., Mark Scherer of Cape Girardeau, Bob Scherer of Venice, Fla.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be provided by VFW Post 3838 and Missouri Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Building Fund or Teen Challenge International Mid-America.
