SIKESTON, Mo. -- An Oran, Mo., woman was killed in a head-on collision early Saturday.
According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 61 south of Route HH shortly before 2 a.m.
Emergency crews shut down U.S. 61 for several hours while they investigated the collision. The driver of one vehicle, a 52-year-old Miner, Mo., woman, was extricated and flown to an area hospital. Her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, the department said in a news release. The driver of the other vehicle, Melissa C. McNamee, 32, was pronounced dead by Scott County Coroner Scott Amick.
The department contacted the Missouri State Highway Patrol for a possible reconstruction of the accident. The initial investigation shows one driver crossed the centerline, leading to the collision.
