The city of Cape Girardeau is participating in the annual "The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut" earthquake drill.
Participants are encouraged to drop, cover and hold on for 60 seconds at 10:15 a.m. Thursday. According to organizers, "participating is a great way for families and organizations to be prepared to survive and recover quickly from big earthquakes."
Southeast Missouri sits on the New Madrid Seismic Zone, one of the most active earthquake areas in the country. For more information, visit shakeout.org/centralus/index.html.
