Awards/Achievements and Scholarships

The following students have been awarded scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2013-2014 academic year:

* Steven Bright of Sedgewickville, Mo., was awarded the University Scholarship and Residence Life Leadership Award. He is the son of Doug and Paula Bowers of Sedgewickville and will graduate from Meadow Heights High School in Patton, Mo.

* Kristen Cook of Jackson was awarded the University Scholarship and Residence Life Leadership Award. She is the daughter of Todd and Pam Cook of Jackson and will graduate from Jackson Senior High School.

* Seth Sievers of Jackson was awarded the Governor's Scholarship and Governor's Housing Scholarship. He is the son of Douglas and Eileen Sievers of Jackson and will graduate from Notre Dame Regional High School.

Morris graduates from Edgewood with honors

Meeshay Morris of Cairo, Ill., graduated cum laude from Edgewood College in Madison, Wis. Meeshay is the daughter of Jennie Latham.

Shaffer and Gowin earn degrees from Fort Hays

Two area students have earned advanced degrees from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan.

* Lori Shaffer of Cape Girardeau earned a Master of Liberal Studies with a humanities emphasis.

* Bret Gowin of Olive Branch, Ill., earned an educational specialist degree in education administration.

Missouri Gaming Association Scholarship

The Missouri Gaming Association is accepting submissions for the Project 21 scholarship. Students are asked to educate peers on the dangers of underage gaming. Applicants must write and publish an original article in the school newspaper, or create a poster or video and display it at their high school for at least one full week in February or March. Entries must be submitted by April 12. Applications are available online at www.missouricasinos.org or by calling 573-634-4001. Written requests can be sent to P.O. Box 305, Jefferson City, Mo., 65102.
