The Cape Girardeau County Republican Women will host a discussion of controversial House Bill 253 at noon Friday at Dexter Bar-B-Que, 236 Broadview St.
Republican State Rep. Shelley Keeney, House Majority Caucus chairwoman, will be the featured guest. Keeney will offer her insight into House Bill 253, which passed both houses of the legislature but vetoed by Gov. Jay Nixon.
Opponents of the bill say it would increase taxes on prescription drugs and college textbooks, cause irreparable harm to public education and other vital services and undermine economic growth. Supporters of the bill say for the first time in almost 100 years, the state legislature has passed a bill that would provide a tax cut for every Missourian and lead to economic growth.
