Gov. Jay Nixon has made nominations to seven state boards and commissions, which include two local nominees.

Kyle E. Brost of Cape Girardeau was named to the State Board of Optometry. He has operated a family eye business in Cape Girardeau since 1989 and is a paramedical health professional with Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville, Mo. He is past president of the Missouri Optometric Association and is a graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry.

The board handles licensing for qualified optometrists, establishes standards of professional conduct, investigates consumer and patient complaints and disciplines optometrists for violations of the optometry statutes and/or regulations. The governor nominated Brost for a term ending June 30, 2015.

Joel P. Rhodes, also of Cape Girardeau, was named to the State Historical Records Advisory Board, the central advisory body for historical records planning that reviews proposals to the National Historical Publications and Records Commission grant program.

Rhodes, who is a professor of history at Southeast Missouri State University, would serve for one term ending Nov. 1, 2016.

The governor's nominations will be subject to approval by the Missouri Senate.
