Central sophomore Alex Mailes went 5-0 in his tennis singles matches last week to reach the Class 2 Sectional 1 individually as well as helping the Tigers to the sectional round as a team.
Mailes nearly pitched a shutout on his way to the sectional round individually, beating his first two opponents 6-0, 6-0, before defeating teammate Derek Nunnery 6-1, 6-0 in the district championship match.
The second-seeded Tigers also upset Oakville for the Class 2 District 1 team title. Mailes topped Farmington's Ian Powers 6-4, 6-2 in the Tigers' 5-0 semifinal win over the Knights, then shutout Oakville's Christian Kalinowski in the Tigers' 5-2 upset of Oakville.
Mailes is 21-2 on the season. His season achievements also include winning the No. 1 singles division at the Farmington Invitational.
