The Gordonville Fire Department responded to a call at 298 Blue Willow Lane at 8:45 p.m. Thursday that heavily damaged a home and killed three family pets.

Fire chief Randy Morris said the home's occupants returned to find the fire and immediately called for help.

Firefighters from Gordonville, Jackson, Millersville and Whitewater had the fire contained within 30 minutes. Morris said firefighters remained on scene for nearly two hours to take photos of the damage, recover valuables and make sure no fires reignited.

Morris said the cause of the blaze remains unknown, and it originated in the kitchen. The home is one story with a detached garage.

The home sustained extensive damage on the first floor, but Morris said he thought it was salvageable.

The homeowners and firefighters were uninjured, but the family lost three pets in the fire.

"They were the family's real valuables," Morris said. "My heart went out to them."
