The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating an officer-involved fatal shooting in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Just before noon Friday, the Poplar Bluff Police Department received a call about a stabbing on Lester Street that sent the victim to the hospital in critical condition, the patrol reported in a news release Friday afternoon.
Based on their initial investigation, police went to an apartment building at 201 S. Broadway, where a man confronted them with a knife in a common hallway, the release stated.
Instead of complying with the officers' orders to drop the knife, the man charged at them, at which point a Poplar Bluff officer shot him and fatally wounded him, the release stated.
The man's name is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.
At the request of the Poplar Bluff Police Department and the Butler County, Missouri, coroner, the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the shooting.
