Fire damages Town Plaza business

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to an early fire Sunday morning at Plaza Hair Care in the Town Plaza.

At 3:54 a.m., the fire department responded to a fire at the hair salon at 79 S. Plaza Way owned by Mike Jessup.

Battalion chief Fred Vincel at the scene reported light showing from within the building. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire inside and extinguished it, according to the fire report.

Crews from the Jackson and Scott City fire departments entered adjoining businesses to see whether the fire had spread, but reported it had not.

The business sustained heavy fire and smoke damage, with light smoke damage in the adjoining businesses. No injuries were reported.
