Southeast Missouri State men's basketball coach Dickey Nutt was fired from the position after six seasons, it was announced in a university press release Monday afternoon.
The announcement came less than two hours after the university said women's basketball coach Ty Margenthaler resigned his position.
Nutt had compiled a record of 80-108 overall and 41-59 in the Ohio Valley Conference while at Southeast. He had two winning seasons: 17-16 in 2012-13 and 18-14 in 2013-14.
The Redhawks reached the conference tournament five times under Nutt but never advanced past the quarterfinal round.
Southeast finished eighth in the OVC and lost 79-74 to Morehead State in the first round of the tournament this season. The Redhawks were 13-17 and 7-9 in the conference.
"This is a difficult decision for our university and for our program," Southeast athletic director Mark Alnutt said in a release. "While we appreciate the rebuilding efforts of our basketball program by Coach Nutt, we have not shown the progress to meet the expectations on where I feel we should be in year six of a program. I firmly believe that a change in leadership is merited at this point. We would like to thank Coach Nutt for his service to the Southeast community and wish him well in his future endeavors."
Southeast announced Nutt signed a contract extension through the 2016-17 season on April 9, 2014.
Assistant coach Jamie Rosser will serve as head coach until Nutt's replacement is hired. A national search to fill the position will begin immediately, according to a release.
