The Cape Girardeau Police Department and the FBI are working to investigate a report of an adult abduction.
A woman told authorities Tuesday she was abducted for hours before escaping her captor.
She said she was sitting in her vehicle in South County Park in Cape Girardeau when she was forced into a red extended cab Ford pickup truck. The abduction happened sometime between 11 a.m. and noon.
The woman said she was driven to various locations and assaulted before she escaped in Effingham, Illinois, about 6 p.m. Tuesday. A news release from the FBI, St. Louis division, said the vehicle may have traveled south on Interstate 55 from Cape Girardeau, then back to Cape Girardeau before crossing into Illinois.
The suspect is described as a white male in his mid- to late 30s with a salt-and-pepper goatee. He is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and heavy-set, wearing a ball cap, light bluejeans and a dirty long-sleeve top. The suspect possibly is hard of hearing and a heavy smoker, according to the description in the news release.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
