Traffic on Interstate 55 was shut down briefly Friday when one motor vehicle accident led to several others.
Minor injuries were reported from some of the accidents, which occurred while motorists were slowing for a wreck that left a truck engulfed in flames.
The accidents took place south of Scott City in the southbound lane about two miles north of Benton, Missouri. Traffic briefly was rerouted onto U.S. 61 near Scott City as public safety officials responded to the scene.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported about four crashes occurred Friday afternoon.
