In the town of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the Mississippi River is cresting after a week of flooding upriver. The town is protected by a 50-year-old 20 ft. floodwall. This is the highest flood in Cape's recorded history. This 2016 flood height of 48.8 ft. tops the previous record flood height of 47.9 ft. set in 1993 above flood stage.
