Sinkhole closes section of Route N in Cape County

The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Department is alerting drivers to a road closure after a sinkhole about the width of one lane developed under a roadway in Cape Girardeau County.

The collapsed portion of the highway is on Route N between Route NN and County Road 253.

The sheriff’s department announced on its Facebook page Saturday afternoon the Missouri Department of Transportation has been notified of the sinkhole and is en route to inspect the roadway.

The sheriff’s department has not determined when the road will be reopened.
