Hal “Burt” Lehman Jr., 69, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at his home.

He was born Feb. 1, 1948, in Cape Girardeau to Hal Burton and Norma Elisabeth Penn Lehman Sr. He and Ruby R. Holt were married April 10, 1999, in Cape Girardeau.

He graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in 1966 and attended Southeast Missouri State University.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970 with the 3rd Squadron of the 4th U.S. Cavalry (Mackenzies Raiders). He received the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert (Rifle) and the Army Commendation Medal.

He worked for Southeast Missouri State University in Central Receiving-Bulk Mail Department.

He was very active in American Legion Post No. 63, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838, the Disabled American Veterans and Sons of the American Legion.

He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby R. Lehman of Cape Girardeau; a son, Brent J. (Cara) Griffith of Catawissa, Missouri; three sisters, Jeanie (Richard) Allgood, Peggy Barringer and Lisa (Chuck) Huey, all of Cape Girardeau; and a granddaughter, Sydney Griffith.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Conley and the Rev. Dr. Barry Winders officiating. American Legion Post Honor Service to follow the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with full military honors by American Legion Post No. 63 and the Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Hospice, American Legion Post No. 63 or Centenary United Methodist Church.
