The Cape Girardeau SportsPlex is garnering national recognition less than a year after it opened.

The 121,000-square-foot complex recently was ranked the top indoor sports facility in the Midwest by Sports Planning Guide. The SportsPlex ranked ahead of several larger arenas and sports facilities in the top-10 list.

Heather Davis, SportsPlex supervisor, said the facility also has been named the Outstanding Courts and Recreation Facility of the Year by the American Sports Builders Association.

The Builders Association scores projects based on factors such as surface, design and layout, site work, base construction, innovation and overall impression.

Davis called it �very exciting� for the SportsPlex, which opened in May, has drawn such praise so early in its operation.

The SportsPlex continues to have success booking basketball and other sports tournaments, Davis said.
