DEXTER, Mo. -- Don Scowden, 66, of Dexter died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Dexter Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1935, at Greenbrier, Mo., son of Oren and Annie Simmers Scowden. DEXTER, Mo. -- Don Scowden, 66, of Dexter died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Dexter Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 1, 1935, at Greenbrier, Mo., son of Oren and Annie Simmers Scowden.

Scowden served 20 years in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Amvets and Eagles Aerie.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Scowden of Phoenix, Ore., Jeff Scowden of Dexter; a daughter, Donna Hellings of Panama City, Fla.; his mother of Sturdivant, Mo.; four brothers, Lloyd Harris of Puxico, Mo., Dwane Scowden of Carthage, Mo., Dwight Scowden of Sturdivant, Bobby Scowden of Whitewater, Mo.; four sisters, Margaret White, Rachel Carlton and Barbara Shell, all of Advance, Mo., Shirley McCullough of Sturdivant; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dale Wiseman officiating. Burial will be in Berrong Cemetery at Zalma, Mo.
