Alfred Gilbert Zahner, 69, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Ill. Alfred Gilbert Zahner, 69, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Ill.

He was born May 6, 1931, in Perryville, Mo., son of Gilbert Oscar and Clara Caroline Loberg Zahner. He and Judith Ann Thompson were married Nov. 25, 1976, in Buena Park, Calif.

Zahner was a police officer in Perryville from 1969-76, and worked in security for Cal-Comp in Orange County, Calif., from 1977-79.

He attended St. Paul College at Concordia, Mo. He was a member and elder at St. Andrew Lutheran Church and member of American Legion Post in Jackson, Mo. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3838 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16.

Zahner served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Rick Tisher of Perryville; two daughters, Denise Moraz of Cape Girardeau, Anita Moll of Perryville; a brother, Clarence Zahner of Perryville; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a sister.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Short will officiate. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum, with service by VFW Post 3838.

Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
