JACKSON, Mo. -- Alfred Meyer, 88, of Jackson died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Sept. 2, 1912, at Neelys Landing, Mo., son of W.B. and Bertha Farrow Meyer. He and Vertie Marie Cotner were married Nov. 7, 1931...

JACKSON, Mo. -- Alfred Meyer, 88, of Jackson died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 2, 1912, at Neelys Landing, Mo., son of W.B. and Bertha Farrow Meyer. He and Vertie Marie Cotner were married Nov. 7, 1931.

Meyer retired from Patton Tully Construction Co. in Memphis, Tenn., in 1967. He then worked at New McKendree United Methodist Church through 1977. Meyer owned and operated a farm at Neelys Landing many years. He was a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church and Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harvey Meyer of Lebanon, Mo., Gene Meyer of Jackson; two daughters, Hazel Masterson and Brenda Reed of Jackson; two sisters, Lucille Davis and Louise McCain of Jackson; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 5-9 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be held at 7.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Raymond V. Epps officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
