Publisher Jerry L. Reppert of Anna, Ill., was in Washington, D.C., recently for a meeting with the U.S. Postmaster General.

Reppert is chairman of the National Newspaper Association's government affairs committee. He and Postmaster Jack Potter discussed ways to resolve the postal service's financial woes. Projections indicate that the postal service could lose more than $1.5 billion and that a postal hike will "come sooner than later," Potter said.

The men talked about labor issues, the effect of closing smaller post office and the potential increase in the debt limit allowed by Congress.
