PERRYVILLE -- Notre Dame's girls basketball team rebounded from Monday night's season-opening, one-point loss to Perryville with a comfortable 51-34 victory over St. Pius Tuesday night in the Perryville Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 1-1 on both the season and in the round-robin tournament. St. Pius fell to 0-2 on both fronts.

"It's good to get that first win," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim. "I thought the girls played hard last night and to fall short like that was hard on them."

Jill Huber led the way with 13 points.

Notre Dame led 10-9 after one quarter and 26-20 at halftime. They extended the lead in both the third and fourth quarters.

Notre Dame will have a chance to win the tournament tonight if it defeats Farmington by more than five points.

In Tuesday's other game, Farmington dealt Perryville its first loss 75-70.

Andrea Gladbach scored a game-high 25 points for Farmington (2-0).

Five Lady Pirates reached double figures: Tiffany Perkins (17), Shannon Dreyer (13), Amanda Schumer (11), Jamie Amberger (11) and Amy Verseman (10).

Farmington jumped out to a 15-point lead in the first quarter, prompting Perryville coach Vicki Lohmann to pull her starters.

"I put in my underclassmen, turned on the press and they couldn't handle it and it got us right back in the game," said Lohmann. "The second half was just a hard fought game.

Farmington led 39-35 at halftime and Perryville (1-1) nudged ahead 55-54 by the start of the fourth quarter.

"It basically came down to free throws at the end and they hit their free throws and we didn't," said Lohmann.
