JACKSON -- John M. Thompson has been named president of Boatmen's Bank at Jackson.

Thompson's promotion was announced this week by James P. Limbaugh, president and chief executive officer of Boatmen's National Bank of Cape Girardeau.

Thompson will oversee the operations and lending activities of Boatmen's three Jackson area locations the main bank, 101 Court, and facilities at 1846 E. Jackson Blvd., and Highway 61 North in Fruitland. Two of the locations were formerly Jackson Exchange banks.

Most recently, Thompson served Boatmen's as senior vice president in charge of commercial lending with chief responsibilities in commercial business and real estate lending.

He joined Boatmen's in 1983 as a real estate loan officer. He was promoted to vice president and manager of the real estate loan department in 1985 and to senior vice president of the commercial lending group in 1987.

Prior to joining Boatmen's, he was vice president/branch manager at Heritage Savings and Loan in Jackson.

"John is the perfect person for the position," said Limbaugh. "It's a classic `hand-in-glove' fit for the Jackson Bank."

A native of Jackson, Thompson attended the University of Missouri and later received a marketing degree from Southeast Missouri State University. He is a graduate of the Missouri Bankers Association (MBA) Commercial Lending School, MBA National School of Real Estate Finance, and most recently the Robert Morris Associates Mentor Program for Commercial Lending.

He is a member of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors, Southeast Missouri Homebuilders Association, and Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation. He is also a member of the National Eagle Scout Association, New McKendree United Methodist Church and Jackson Tribal Council Booster Club.

Thompson and his wife, Teresa, live in Jackson. They are parents of three children.
