I'M GETTING tired of those who would speak for God by calling Speak Out. The Bible clearly says, "Judge not lest thou be judged." I believe if you judge harshly in this life, then in the next life God will judge you just as harshly. I think life is a learning process, and I think Clinton has learned from this. I think that's what God would have all of us do: learn day in and day out and work toward becoming more worthy to meet him in the end...

Clinton has learned a lesson

I'M GETTING tired of those who would speak for God by calling Speak Out. The Bible clearly says, "Judge not lest thou be judged." I believe if you judge harshly in this life, then in the next life God will judge you just as harshly. I think life is a learning process, and I think Clinton has learned from this. I think that's what God would have all of us do: learn day in and day out and work toward becoming more worthy to meet him in the end.

The politics of radicalism

SOCIALISM IS still alive and well in America. The Democratic Party is still essentially a socialist party, and Bill and Hillary Clinton are committed to a socialist agenda. Sound extreme? Think about it. The American system is built on four great principles bequeathed to us by the Founders: The rule of law, individual rights, the guarantee of property and a common American identity. The Democratic Party and the Clintons are working to undermine all four. Clinton's scorn for the rule of law, his attempts to socialize medical care and expand state power throughout the economy and his obsession with politically correct multiculturalism come straight from the radicalism of the 1960s that is still a dominant force in the Democratic Party today.

Let's raise an army

I'M SO proud of Ken Starr and Chairman Hyde for their dignity, composure and soft-spoken fight to reveal honesty and constitutional law. Meanwhile, those on the Democratic side of the committee have already made fools of themselves to the American people by their squirming, squealing and scampering like cockroaches when the light of truth is suddenly turned on. That shows you what the Democrats are all about: kill the truth and rule by absolute tyranny. I wish we had an army of Ken Starrs.

Straying from the subject

DURING THE impeachment hearings, every Democrat -- every one of them -- has assumed too much. They have strayed from the subject and totally made an ass of themselves. And they are trying to make an ass of me too.

Spin is repetitious

I'VE BEEN listening all day to the C-SPAN coverage of the president's impeachment hearings. All I've heard all day long is the same spin over and over by the Democrats. Can't they at least have enough initiative to come up with an idea of their own? Do they have to repeat over and over again the same spin?

Starr committed perjury

I AND millions of other citizens in this great country have watched Kenneth Starr commit perjury hour after hour on TV. I feel he should be prosecuted and charged with perjury. He should be thoroughly investigated by our attorney general and her people.

Articulate and thoughtful

I JUST want to say I've been watching that vicious, mean-spirited Ken Starr, and he almost terrified me to sleep. I never saw a more articulate, thoughtful man who obviously has done a good job. Of course, we need these Democrats now to tell us how bad he is.

Unfair taxation on guns

AFTER READING S.L. Hodge's letter: Cheap handguns are hard to find. Machine guns are seized when found. High capacity-clips have been outlawed. The background check will cost me $15 every time I purchase a firearm. The second time I purchase a firearm in one week would seem to be a form of unfair taxation, which is how this all started to begin with. Sign me a lifetime NRA member.

He's a big target

THANK GOD for Bill Clinton. All these people have to have somebody to hate. If it weren't for Bill Clinton, they'd be on the rest of us. They'd have to find something wrong with us. Good lord, where would Rush Limbaugh be without Democrats to hate? Where would any of these people who are so negative and always running down somebody be? Without Clinton and without Democrats all these people who have to have somebody to hate might turn on us.

Starr lied in testimony

JUST AS the impeachment hearings were about to end Nov. 19, Rep. Maxine Walters from California spoke up and asked the chairman if she could clarify some statements and ask questions of the witness so that he would not be charged with perjury. And Ken Starr was the only witness. Hurray for Maxine Walters. He lied so many times, and it was very obvious. They need to do something with that man. This is ridiculous.

Claims were carefully laid out

I WATCHED Ken Starr on TV. He wasn't crazy. He wasn't a devil. He wasn't wild and doing strange things. He was just an ordinary person. He very carefully laid out evidence to show that the president has lied to the American people, has committed perjury and has obstructed justice. He very slowly laid out each claim and laid out proof to show it. He explained the president's actions and laid it out in such a way that everybody could understand. Now what do we do? The American people want this liar to continue to be their president, yet the rule of law says that people who commit felonies must pay the price for the crimes they have committed. What do we do?

He's bad, but we support him

WHILE BEING interviewed on TV after the hearings, a Democratic representative said he deplored what Clinton had done and what a disgrace it was. But he said he and his colleagues had a lot invested in Bill Clinton and will continue to support him. How about the rule of law? Equal justice for everyone? If this were a sheriff, police officer or state trooper, he would have been crucified by this representative and his colleagues. How does scum like this get elected?

What will history say?

YEARS FROM now when history is written about this era, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will wonder what kind of fools would elect a con artist for president and then, once he's totally exposed, still support him. I intend to write my memoirs so future generations of my family will know they had at least once ancestor who knew right from wrong.

Don't use God as coverup

I'M RESPONDING to the person who said God hasn't forgiven Clinton. I was always taught that God is a forgiving God. What Clinton did was wrong, and he does need to be punished, but don't use God to cover up the way you feel about things. Voice your own opinion.

Questionable voting

WE NEED a very simple test for citizens who vote. Many can't make a decision or evaluate candidates or party platforms themselves. They're with friends or relatives, and they vote their viewpoint. At voting precincts you see many people punching other's cards and guiding their hand. I can see if you have a physical handicap, but many don't know or don't care what they vote for or who they vote for. The one who is with them determines their choice. They are hauled around to voting places like cattle, just for their votes. What some won't do for a political party.

Appealing to the lowest standard

CLINTON APPEALS to the lowest morals of some citizens in our country. They want to be able to feel that anything goes, and they now have legitimacy for their lewd behavior. They can now get away with anything illegal because, if they get caught, they can just lie their way out of it and continue their loose lifestyles with impunity. Clinton has set an example with his lewd behavior and perjury. This felon should be impeached and convicted and sent to prison like other perjurers have been. He is not above the law. Ken Starr has him dead to rights.

Sure, he did it, but ...

I WOULD like to comment about the Kenneth Starr testimony. I noticed when everything was over, not one Democrat came out said he's not guilty. That's one thing they're not saying.

Mortgages have to be paid

SPEAK OUT, please, please print this. I have read in the newspaper about the Community Sweat Equity Housing Corp., and I have to say that I am very, very upset. The last headline in the paper was "what went wrong?" Well, take a guess, people. You can't expect to borrow money from lenders that you don't pay back. I have to pay my mortgage every month. Nobody's going to pay it for me, that's for sure. To pay your mortgage and your other bills, you have to have a job. Get the picture? I'm sick and tired of people who think for some reason they can go through the life and not have to play by the same set of rules that everyone else has to.

He's doing his job

IN RESPONSE to the person who thinks the president should be kicked out of the White House, there is no grounds to kick him out. It's his personal life. The sexual act he committed was not right. It was not moral. But it had nothing to do with his job. He's doing his job, and there's no reason in the world why he should be forced out of the White House.

Let's fill up the seats

I ATTENDED a SEMO basketball game, and I just want to express what a good job I think Coach Gary Garner is doing with the SEMO basketball team. However, I feel like there should be some people in the athletic administration trying to help the program with some promotional work. It appears we have some several seats empty, especially seats far away from the floor, up high. We could do some promotional work with the high schools in the area and give away some tickets to get those seats filled, then maybe have a little better atmosphere in the gymnasium for Coach Garner and that basketball team.

It's taxpayers' money

I AM really enjoying the articles on the Community Sweat Equity Housing program. They've been very informative. It does, however, blow my mind that three people can be so intertwined with both Sweat Equity and the adult day-care center and abuse taxpayers' money that we give to them honestly.

Have your say in Speak Out

I'M CALLING in response to the person who wrote "Ashamed of name calling." I think the Southeast Missourian prints purely whatever the people say in defense of their First Amendment rights. I'm sure if anyone called in and said Jo Ann Emerson only got into office because of her husband, they would print that. Or that Kit Bond was not a dynamic speaker and he stumbles a lot, and Ashcroft does not have a charismatic personality, I have a feeling the Missourian would probably print it. So in response to the First Amendment, I would solely believe that the Southeast Missourian would do that. To that caller, President Clinton has dug his own hole, and he has to live in it.

Salaries promote anger, jealousy

MAGGIE PROBST recently wrote that the salaries of SEMO university personnel shouldn't be published by the Southeast Missourian. I agree. When I read the information, I start seething with anger and jealousy. I've even had a few chest pains.

The definition fits

I LOOKED up the meaning "pervert" in my Webster's dictionary. It says "one given to some form of sexual perversion." That fits the description of Clinton and Lewinsky's behavior.

He didn't apologize either

WHY IS calling the president a pervert evil, disrespectful and uncalled for, and why should the Missourian apologize to him? Those words describe his behavior, and he never apologized to Paula Jones. He's just sorry he got caught. He was sorry he was exposed.

Thanks for the report

A GREAT big hand for the Southeast Missourian for printing the special report on Community Sweat Equity Housing Corp. I think it's wonderful the paper is printing this so everybody can read this information. Thank you, thank you.

Mistakes likely to repeat

I HAVE this to say to those who dealt with the Community Sweat Equity Housing Corp. and the Golden Age Day Care Center: If you do not remember your past mistakes, you are bound to repeat them.

Union volunteers are appreciated

I'D LIKE to thank all the members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 1 and the Bricklayers Local No. 23 for donating their time, labor and material on the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Freedom Corner. It's a very attractive memorial to the veterans of this town, and the citizens of Cape Girardeau should be thankful that they have people in labor unions that will help beautify their area.

People favor censure

I WANT to tell all the Republicans that the American people are a lot smarter than you all are. That includes Rush Limbaugh. The American people see it as a sex coverup but think Clinton should be censured, not impeached. Let's get on with other things. The American people have spoken.
