Bruce Gardner, assistant U.S. Secretary of Agriculture for Economics, and Thomas J. Hoogheem, manager of Environmental Issues for Monsanto Agriculture Company at St. Louis, will be keynote speakers for the `New Trends in Agriculture' program, to be held at the Show Me Center on Southeast Missouri State University campus in Cape Girardeau next month.

Gardner will discuss Agriculture Policy during the noon luncheon July 17, and Hoogheem will discuss major issues facing agriculture today, regarding the use of pesticides, during the noon luncheon on July 18..

Hoogheem previously served as environmental engineer of the Tennessee Valley Authority, and joined Monsanto in 1976 as senior environmental engineer. He has served as manager of environmental issues government affairs since 1908.

The `New Trends' program, scheduled July 17-18, will feature a number of speakers at seminars discussing dairy cattle, beef and swine, and crops.

"We're also expecting more than 75 commercial exhibits at the Show Me Center," said Bryan.

This year's event marks the first year for a summer seminar. In past years, New Trends has been held in February.

Seminars will be conducted both days at the event, starting at 9 a.m.

Beef, dairy and swine workshops will be conducted July 17, with the crop seminars July 18.
