The Area Wide United Way will kick off its 2001 fund-raising campaign during the SEMO District Fair next week, but will thank its sponsors in advance at its annual CEO luncheon Thursday afternoon at Drury Lodge.
"We want to make them aware that it is campaign time again and encourage them to get others involved," said Nancy Jernigan, executive director of the Area Wide United Way.
David Darnell, president of the central region of the Bank of America, will be the keynote speaker. Nationally, the Bank of America is one of the top corporate supporters of the United Way, donating millions of dollars to the campaign and its various programs.
Local CEO Mike Smythe of KFVS 12 will speak of his company's efforts and explain the impact local companies have in their communities through their support of the United Way. Cheryl Robb-Welch, director of the Safe House for Women, will speak about how United Way funding has benefited the Safe House.
The 2000 Area United Way campaign raised $901,065 for 32 agencies in Southeast Missouri.
