WRIGHT CITY, Mo. (AP) -- An eastern Missouri man was in custody Wednesday following a four-hour standoff with police.

It began around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at the suspect's mobile home at Wright City, about 45 miles west of St. Louis. The name of the suspect has not been released.

Police say the man had been drinking heavily, was despondent and suicidal. He called his brother, threatening to kill himself. The brother arrived and tried to wrestle a gun away from the man. When the gun discharged, the brother left and phoned police.

As officers with the Warren County Sheriff's Department approached the trailer, the suspect allegedly fired several rounds from an automatic rifle. No one was hurt.

At about 2:30 a.m., the suspect surrendered after police shot him with bean-bag ammunition. Police say they fired the shots after being threatened.

The suspect was being treated for self-inflicted cuts to his arms and was undergoing psychiatric evaluation, sheriff's officials said.

Officers say they found several handguns, converted automatic rifles and nearly 3,000 rounds of ammunition in the suspect's home.
